Area Information

Madison County is a gem in the heart of New York State, with a rich history and scenic vistas. With Oneida Lake on the northern border, 14 other lakes, the Erie Canal, and many square miles of publicly-owned land, there are a wealth of opportunities for outdoor recreation, while shoppers find bargains in the antique shops and specialty stores scattered along our roadways and in our charming villages.

Agriculture has traditionally been the economic base, but you’d be surprised at the variety of business activity in the area. There are high technology companies, manufacturers, inventors and entrepreneurs, artists and craftspeople to name a few.

Culture also abounds in Central New York with venues like the Earlville Opera House, the Palace Theater, the Glimmerglass Opera and the Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institute.
